Donald F. Mirabito, 70,

Donald F. Mirabito, 70,

Donald F. Mirabito, 70, of Grafton, MA, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2026, after a brief illness. Don was born in Natick, MA. He was the eldest son of Francis Mirabito and Frances Campbell. He grew up and attended school in Northborough, MA, and graduated from Clark University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Don began his career as a senior software engineering manager for various high-tech companies, including Data General, Digital Equipment Corporation, and EMC Corporation. He helped develop numerous cutting-edge technologies such as what would become video on demand.

He later formed and headed his own construction/remodeling company called The Humble Cottage. He was truly gifted in designing and building projects throughout central Massachusetts. His focus, attention to detail, and precision was unmatched. Always eager to learn new skills, he attended and taught classes related to the building industry. He retired in 2024, but continued to mentor others with his carpentry knowledge. Don was a strong advocate for “keeping the trades alive.”

Don is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 46 years Sharon (Matos), son Christopher, and son Timothy and his wife Maryam Khan. He is also survived by his mother Fran, sister Donna McCann and her husband Patrick, brother Thomas and his wife Michelle, sister Jeannine Barrett, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Don was an avid outdoorsman. He loved boating, fishing, hunting, and hiking. He was a lifetime member of the Nashoba Sportsman’s Club in Acton, MA. He participated in numerous trap shooting league competitions, winning several trophies for his marksmanship. Don enjoyed sports, woodworking activities, reading, conversations regarding politics, and his Grafton neighborhood. His happy places were the mountains, the woods, and near or on the water. He looked forward to traveling and exploring New England, and was always seeking new adventures.

Don’s outgoing personality and steadfast willingness to lend a hand no doubt made a lasting impression on those he met. His easygoing nature will be missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew him…Don, we love you!

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 9am to 12pm, at the Consigli Ruggerio Funeral Home, located at 46 Water Street, Milford, MA.

Don believed in wilderness conservation: the land does not belong to us, but that we belong to the land. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Northeast Wilderness Trust (newildernesstrust.org), or a charity of your choice.

I can't say I knew Don as well as so many of you, but we shared a passion for the building trade, and I looked forward to seeing him every year at JLC Live. Conversations with him were always easy, and peppered with good humor. He was a giving soul, and I'll miss him. Godspeed, Don, and my sincerest condolences to his family and friends.

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we remember my uncle Donnie. His legacy lives on in the knowledge he shared, the people he encouraged, the nature he cherished, and the values he passed down: respect for learning, care for the earth, and love for family. To me, he was a steadfast supporter of my education, always taking interest in my work, asking questions, offering insight, and inspiring me to think bigger. He showed that intelligence and humility could go hand in hand, that curiosity should never fade, and that one person’s quiet dedication can make a meaningful difference. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever celebrated.
